Jackson man burglarized repeatedly

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

After burglars broke the deadbolt lock on his front door months ago, 75-year-old Milton Moore, who lives alone, resorted to a padlock and heavy chain. But when he leaves, he says the burglars pick the lock and get in anyway.

"When I get in the house, they've ransacked the drawers in my chest," he said.

The burglars take canned food, any cash they can find, and his heart and diabetes prescription medications.

"I take it and try to hide it when I leave. I take it with me. The whole batch with me. I can't rebuy my medicine," Moore says.

Moore tells us he calls police each time he's burglarized. They've come out in the past, but he says the last time he had a break-in, about a week ago, no officer responded. He says police told him they're swamped with other crimes.

Moore says he needs a surveillance camera, a locksmith that won't charge much, or help catching those responsible. He believes they live on his street, because they know when he leaves.

We've called Jackson Police, and also the City of Jackson to see if there's any type of assistance for older people who are victims of crimes at home.

Moore just wants to feel safe again.

"It's time for it to stop. I don't know why it even started," he says.
