BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - It may not have been a good weekend to be out on the water fishing, or deep in the woods hunting, but many still got to experience the great outdoors at the inaugural Woods and Water Hunting and Fishing Expo held at the Coast Coliseum.
There were many sounds, sights and tastes at this year's event.
"It's a big event. We have around 130 vendors," said Gina Mandrick with Show Pro LLC, the host of the event. "Everything from fishing, camping, knives, bow and arrows. There's a little bit of everything so it's a nice show."
People, young and old, gained a new appreciation for nature.
"Me and my brothers are going to catch a big shark," said five-year-old Brennon Garth.
"Been here for about two hours now. It's real neat," said Kenneth Richardson.
Amongst the vendors was one man not trying to sell his products, but instead, promote his cause, "Hunt of a Lifetime."
"We take children with life threatening illnesses hunting and fishing," said Dan Wilhit. "We've been established since 1999 and as of today's date we've taken 827 kids on their dream hunt and fishing trips."
Wilhit said hunting and fishing are his passions, and bringing that love to young children with terminal illnesses is his purpose.
"The biggest smile you'd ever imagine on their faces, even if they don't get an animal," said Wilhit.
While some tried new activities, and creatures of all kinds made appearances, one things was for sure.
"If you like the outdoors this is where you need to be," said Mandrick.
Bringing a new adventure to nature lovers of all kinds.
