HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Wth just three days to go until a Sept. 24 special election for mayor in Hattiesburg, Mayor Johnny Dupree met with many of his supporters Saturday to thank them for their hard work. A "Count Me In" unity rally was held by the Dupree campaign at Vernon Dahmer Park.

Supporters spoke with the mayor and enjoyed some hot dogs, live music and other activities.

A judge ordered a special election several weeks ago because of voting irregularities with many absentee ballots in the June 4th general election.

Dupree faces independent candidates Dave Ware and Shawn O'hara.

"We wanted to make sure that they know that we appreciate (supporters) and thank them," said Dupree. "This is really for the workers, those who have come out and those who have walked the streets with us, to kind of give them that last minute push," he said.

Dupree said he wanted to make sure his supporters were energized for the last 48 hours of the campaign.
