Dozens of veterans attend last orientation for final honor flight

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

"After three years, this will be our 7th orientation and 7th flight and the last," said public information director of Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight Wayne Lennep.

Those words made for a bittersweet breakfast at the Joppa Shrine in Biloxi Saturday morning as an estimated 50 veterans participated in the last orientation breakfast of the last honor flight. This flight will leave November 5.

Originally, the last flight was scheduled for October 1, but an increased interest brought organizers to plan one more flight.

Lennep said, looking back three years ago they're weren't sure if they were going to be able to put together one flight. But, thanks to the support and interest, they've surpassed their goal of taking 500 veterans to the nation's capital.
