JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - An anhydrous ammonia leak at Airgas Specialty Gas in Moss Point has been contained, and the road in front of the plant reopened.
Emergency crews were first called about the leak at 8:45am Friday. That's when employees initiated their emergency action plan.
When response teams from area fire departments arrived, they learned the ammonia was leaking from a transfer line that linked a 30,000 gallon fixed tank and a rail car. Jackson County Emergency Management Director Earl Ethridge said the leak was contained to that transfer area.
Jackson County deputies temporarily blocked Saracennia Road in front of the plant. That road is open again.
It took response teams about an hour to fix the leak. Nobody was injured.
