MTA bus shelters become targets for vandals

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority is asking for your help to find the people responsible for vandalizing more than a dozen area bus shelters, resulting in costly repairs.

Each of the shelters costs about $20,000 to build, but they've recently become the target of vandals who are breaking out their glass panels.

Tameatria Slater, who relies on the MTA bus to get to work every day, says she was upset to find it had happened to her bus stop.

"It is kind of aggravating because no one wants to sit in an area wear it looks a mess, you know. No one wants to be around that," she said.

MTA officials have repaired most of the damage at 14 different shelters in all, and the shelters along Murfreesboro Pike and Gallatin Pike seem to be the main targets.

The glass panels cost $700 each, and 21 of them have been broken out so far.

Officials say the biggest impact is really on the taxpayers of Nashville, who are paying to replace the glass panels.

If you have any information that could help investigators, call Metro police or Nashville MTA security.
