CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Clinton boy is being called a hero after helping save a woman from a house fire. The Clinton Fire Department was called to the Woodmoor Subdivision around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire was mostly contained to the garage and attic areas on one side of the duplex on Winding Hills Drive.

A young home-schooled neighbor was out walking his dog when he saw the flames.

"I thought there was someone in the driveway like burning papers and then I walked up a little higher up the hill and then I saw a fire," said 12-year-old Brayden McGaugh.

McGaugh said he didn't freak out but instead asked for help.

"I ran down the hill and I screamed fire and then I ran down the hill and I said mom there's a fire," he said.

The boy's mom knocked on the door. The elderly resident and her dog both made it out without injuries. She said she had only lived in the house about four months.

The other half of the duplex was not damaged. Clinton Fire Chief Barry Burnside credits a well built firewall for it not spreading farther. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
