Taking Back Our Neighborhood: 6312 Abraham Lincoln Drive

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There's a property in Presidential Hills I told you about last month, that has been giving neighbors headaches for years because of it's poorly maintained condition.

It's 6312 Abraham Lincoln Drive and the city councilman who represents that ward promised the eyesore would be dealt with.  I promised to keep you posted and that's what I'm doing in this Taking Back Our Neighborhoods report.

The nuisance property next door to Marjorie Purnell went unchecked for years until she called 3 On Your Side. Ward 2 Jackson City Councilman Mel Priester, Junior, even visited the property to make sure it got done. But that wasn't the only eyesore on Abraham Lincoln Drive.

"The landowners have been identified for two of them," said Priester.

The abandoned house, 6312, plagued 68-year-old Dorothy Pace, who lives across the street, for 7-years.

"It's very disturbing because quite a few times someone has been over there, you know, and kind of vandalized it," said Pace.

Councilman Priester said the days of getting no response from city officials about problems like this, are over.

"So, we're gonna take a very hands on approach to problems like that," said Priester.

So, did they? See for yourself.

6312 Abraham Lincoln Drive today is still abandoned, but much easier on the eyes and a lot closer to the neighborhood standards residents here hope maintain.

I should note that Marjorie Purnell, who initially contacted me, is the one who email 'd me to let me know the property had been cleaned.

Let us help you take back your neighborhood. Just send an email to hballou@wlbt.com or contact me on Facebook or Twitter.
