Roof leak forces Wiggins Police Department relocation

WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) -

WLOX News received a tip that the Wiggins Police Department was closing down because several employees were getting mysteriously sick.

Friday afternoon, we spoke with Police Chief Matt Barnett who said a leaking roof is causing some problems for the department. So for the safety of his employees and citizens, they've decided to temporarily relocate the department.

Friday afternoon, the department's dispatchers were moved to the Stone County E-911 building. Beginning Monday, the police headquarters will be operating out of the senior citizen center on Magnolia Drive.

Barnett said an expert will be evaluating the condition of the building on Monday. City leaders will then decide the next step.

Chief Barnett said if you need to report something during normal business hours, go to City Hall. If it's after business hours, call the police department and an officer will meet with you.

When asked if employees were getting sick because of the roof problems, the chief said their illnesses have not been confirmed to be caused by building's condition.
