West Harrison High first in the school district to reach 'A' rating

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Friday the 13th was a great day at West Harrison High School. That's because West Harrison is now the first high school in the school district to receive an honor that every educator strives for - a level "A" rating.

Principal Sherry Washburn couldn't be prouder of her teachers, staff and students.

"We want to make sure the world knows how great our students are," Washburn said. "When you get that performance level, it says a lot about your QDI from your state tests, it says a lot about your growth and it says a lot about the culture of your school."

The gym stands were filled with a lot of excited students who watched cheerleaders, dance team, flag team and the award winning band show off their skills. A lot of the clubs like robotics also got to show off their impressive work. This school day was one big party and pat on the back with a pep rally, picnic and field day.

"We had a great day out here today," student Christian Garner said.

Fellow student Hayley Hudson said, "It makes us want to do better because they are rewarding us for already doing good."

Cheerleaders got students pumped up chanting, "We are hurricanes, as awesome as can be!"

And a very proud Principal Washburn shares her recipe for West Harrison High's success.

"We try to make sure that we're academically oriented, we try to make sure that our students know that they are the most important thing that we have going here."
