Several students, 2 adults hurt in crash involving Caddo school bus

12 students and two adults were hurt in a head-on wreck involving a school bus on Mansfield Road Friday morning.

Police say the driver of a car was traveling north in the southbound lane in the 9000 block of Mansfield Rd. and hit the school bus head on.

Caddo Parish school bus #49 and was taking students to Summerfield Elementary School.

First responders on the scene say 5 kids were taken to LSU Medical Center with various injuries but are all expected to be OK.  The rest of the students were taken on to school on another bus. Once there, Caddo Public Schools Director of Communications and Marketing Victor Mainiero says 5 more students were taken to area hospitals after complaining of discomfort, and two more were checked out by their parents and taken to the hospital.

The school bus driver was also taken to the hospital to be checked out and is expected to be OK.  The driver of the car that collided with the bus was also taken to the hospital, with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. 

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
