Sheriff's deputy passes too soon

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Corey Eugene Gueho died Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Baton Rouge General on Bluebonnet. He had checked in just 7 days earlier with a low grade fever.

Gueho was diagnosed with Leukemia, a treatable disease that affects the blood. A disease he was also familiar with having lost his twin brother to it 18 years earlier. Corey loved his job as a court room security deputy with the sheriff's office.

"Corey was a fine young man," says his boss Sheriff Sid Geautreaux. "[He was] just a good person and a good family man. His family meant everything to him. He was a fine he loved being a sheriff's deputy. He loved wearing a badge."

Working in a criminal courtroom meant Gueho crossed paths with an unsavory element of society. But his friends and family say he never brought it to his country home in Fordoche. He and his wife Chrissy of ten years were blessed with the arrival of their son, Carson, a year ago.

Gueho was assigned to District Court Judge Chip Moore, "You can't replace people like that just a very good people person. I feel so sorry for his mom and dad and his family because he was just a great guy and I'm really going to miss him."

Corey was at home in the woods and he never missed an LSU/Saints football game. He is described as a big man with a bigger heart; a true gentleman with many friends.

"Last night at the funeral home just hundreds and hundreds of people came to give their respects," says Geautreaux. "It says a lot about him and a lot about his family."

Corey Gueho only lived 32 years but those who knew him say he enjoyed every one of them. He was a loving father and husband taken entirely too fast.

"You know we never know when our time is up...his came way too soon," Gautreaux lamented.

A trust fund has been set up for his son Carson at any People's bank.
