POPLARVILLE, MS (WLOX) - You can always expect fireworks whenever Mississippi Gulf Coast and Pearl River Community College clash on the field of competition.
Instead of fireworks, rain and lightning delayed the soccer matches by 40 minutes.
The home standing and 14th ranked Pearl River Lady Wildcats proved why the team is ranked among the best in the nation.
Leading 2-0 at the half... the Lady Wildcats added two second half goals. Christian Gentry came up with a perfect kick, sending the ball over the outreach of the Lady Bulldogs keeper, the ball sailed into the back of the net.
Later, Hollie Jackson set up Rachel Jacobsen. She would rip the ball into the net and Pearl River would net a 4-0 win over arch rival Gulf Coast.
The Bulldogs and Wildcats men's game turned into a defensive struggle thanks to super play by the keepers. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College would pull out a 1-0 victory on a goal off the foot of Ethan Paschal in the 52nd minute to break a scoreless tie.
Bulldogs keeper Zack Tranum turned in a stellar performance in front of the Gulf Coast net keeping the Wildcats out of the Bulldogs net.
