Picayune Maroon Tide love to grind-out victories on the football turf

PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) - Picayune head coach Dodd Lee has developed a winning reputation over the years and his Maroon Tide will be in the hunt for the Division 8-5A championship title.

Picayune is coming off an impressive 41 to 13 win over Region 4-6A member D'Iberville.

Lee said,"We expect a lot out of our kids but we did come up a little short in our first game but I thought we bounced back and played a little better between the first and second week and hopefully we can do the same thing this week."

Running back Preston Dedeaux is back for his senior season. In 2012 he gobbled up 14-humdred-50 yards rushing in only 8 games and bagged 20 touchdowns.

In a 61-58 loss to Petal, Dedeaux rushed for 283 yards on 35 attempts, scored two rushing touchdowns and even tossed a TD pass.

Dedeaux stated,"I have a good offensive line. It's good to run behind those people. Some doubted them this year but I honor them a lot after every touchdown and I appreciate them a lot."@

Coach Lee has built a reputation of a grind-it-out offensive attack by using Dedeaux, Kardarius Cross, Deandre Anderson and others, senior quarterback Boderick Scott can throw the football with capable receivers. Scott is a first time starter.

Lee said,"He hasn't played football since he was in the 9th grade and he came out after the last game last season and asked to come out and play and he's worked real hard and probably threw thousands and thousands of balls between now and last year."

Defensively free safety Jordan Dedeaux has proven he's going to be around the football, making tackle-after-tackle and besides running the football, Kadarius Cross excels in the defensive backfield.

The Picayune at Pearl River Central clash will be one of the marquee games on the WLOX "Friday Night Football Showdown."
