MAGNOLIA, Miss (AP) -

The city board has changed the title and duties of a Magnolia inmate supervisor who was caught sleeping on the job.

The unidentified employee's new title is now "grounds and street keeper" with reference to supervision duties removed.

Stronger language has also been incorporated to identify it as a "working position and not a job of strictly supervising," Alderman Joe Cornacchione says.

The employee, who remains on the payroll, was found sleeping near the fire department on Laurel Street on Aug. 15, two days after aldermen publicly accused him of failing to keep an eye on town inmates.

In recent weeks the board has met repeatedly to deal with the coming year's budget. Each time, aldermen and residents have brought up the issue of the sleeper.
