Heavy traffic for Jackson State game day

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Football is back in the capital city, as Jackson State hosts its season opener, that means heavy game day traffic.

If you were anywhere near Veteran's stadium you saw lines and lines of cars looking for a place to park.

Throngs of tiger and Alabama State hornet fans filled Woodrow Wilson and State Street before the game on their way to a tailgate.

Jackson police urged everyone to arrive early and to stay away from the area if you weren't attending the game.

Construction near the stadium added to the congestion. Fans we talked with are taking it all in stride.

"Today was kind of slow, being the first game and after last week, you know, it was kind of slow, but I expect it to pick up as the season goes along," said Eric Greene, JSU fan.

Jackson State and Jatran have partnered for a park and ride service to all home football games.

A $3.00 pass allows fans to park at the Medical Mall for a ride to and from the stadium.
