BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Golden Nugget Casino is one step closer to completing its $100 million makeover. On Friday, the casino opened Michael Patrick's Sports Cafe and Grille. The restaurant launches the second phase of massive renovations.
Golden Nugget management said the new restaurant will cater to customers whether they're in the mood for a sports bar, a café, or a 24 hour grille.
"The excitement is there because with each passing month comes a new amenity that we're going to add to this property," Marketing Vice President Bradley Rhines said. "There's so many things to come. The best is yet to come."
Next week, the Biloxi casino will open 10,000 square feet of meeting space as well as ballroom space that will double as a concert hall. Crews are also constructing a new VIP services area, retail space and more.
"We get a whole new casino between the parking garage and the existing casino, so it will be one contiguous casino on the first floor," said Rhines. "Then we get a new Bubba Gump Seafood Company restaurant, which will open in late March/first part of April."
Golden Nugget officials said they want to get back to where tourism is what drives the coast economy.
"It brings more people to the coast. Ultimately, we've got to get back to where tourism is the driver of business and the economy on the coast. It has been for a long long time," said Rhines. "I think when you get an owner like Tilman Fertitta who comes in and throws $100 million into this market and fuses it with capital dollars, it makes a statement that we want to improve the offering and the product of the casino that's in this market. I think it forces everybody to look at their operation and want to do the same. If you look around town you'll see a lot of cranes, not just here, but elsewhere."
Casino officials said they are halfway done with hotel room renovations and expect to be finished around Christmastime.
