Ex-JPD officer gets delay in sentencing

The judge set sentencing for Oct. 11. The judge set sentencing for Oct. 11.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge has postponed the sentencing of a former Jackson Police Department narcotics officer who asked for the delay so he can finish a job that will provide for his family while he's in prison.

Attorney Cynthia Stewart made the request in a filing Aug. 28 on behalf of Robert Nikita Shegog, who had been scheduled for sentencing Sept. 12 in U.S. District Court in Jackson.

The judge set sentencing back for Oct. 11.

Shegog pleaded guilty July 3 to his role in a scheme to help a man get a reduced sentence in a drug case in exchange for $45,000.

Shegog faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine at sentencing.
