CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Mississippi College softball and soccer player died at the Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson Wednesday evening.

According to a press release from the college, Ashley Greenway, 20, was rushed to the emergency room after becoming ill in her residence hall room. The cause of her death is unknown at this time. An autopsy will be performed.

Greenway was a nursing major and in her junior year. She was a two-year player on the Lady Choctaws softball and soccer teams.

"She just lit up a room. When she would come in, you always knew that Ashley was there, and she's one of those kids that, you know, you hope that everyone of our student athletes could be like," said Mississippi College Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications David Nichols.

"She was the most hilarious person I've ever met. She was always cracking jokes. Even in bad situations she would make everybody laugh. She just real uplifting and helped everybody see the positives in everything," said softball teammate Erica Johns.

According to the Mississippi College website, Greenway was from Southaven and went to Southaven High School.

Players say Greenway was shy at first. However, she soon opened up to become a vocal leader on the team.

"She was the one of the most amazing people I've ever met in my life. She is by far the strongest girl I've ever come in contact with," said Johns.

"I think everybody kind of realizes how much these girls are together and how difficult it is to loose somebody so suddenly," added Nichols.

The college is expected to conduct a memorial service for Greenway later this month.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Ashley's family, friends and the entire Mississippi College community during this time of loss," the release stated.

The MC softball team has dedicated its season in honor of Greenway.
