MSU quarterback Tyler Russell may be forced to sit out the Alcorn State game

STARKVILLE, MS (WLOX) - Dak Prescott, a 6-3, 230 pound sophomore from Haughton, Louisiana is expected to get the starting nod at quarterback if Russell is forced to sit out the game.

Prescott completed 7 of 17 passes for 89 yards in Saturday's 21-3 loss to 13th ranked Oklahoma State.  He entered the game in the 3rd quarter after Russell was injured.

Mississippi State has won 14 of its last 20 home openers at Scott Field, 3 and 1 under Dan Mullen.

The Bulldogs are 3-0 all-time against teams from the SWAC.  Last season Mississippi State crushed Jackson State 56-9 in the season opener.

Mississippi State should have no problem with Alcorn State and victory over the Braves would set a school record.  Mullen would become the first coach in Mississippi State history to win 30 games in his first five seasons.

Over the last 30 seasons, Mississippi State has started 0-2 just three times.
