Labor Day shoppers look for bargains

FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many Mississippians spent the day off from work spending their hard earned money. Shoppers flocked to shopping areas in the metro today, to cash in on Labor Day sales.

At Dogwood Festival Market, a steady stream of traffic was reported early at Belk. The store had door-buster deals for early birds, and numerous items marked down.

"It's a huge day," said Belk Assistant Manager Robert Porter. "We have large crowds, great sales, door busters yesterday and today.  We had a great ad in yesterdays paper, a great clearance with an extra 50% off on clearance merchandise."

The parking lot was busier than normal, and lines at the registers a bit longer, but shoppers didn't seem to mind.

"I'm out here to find deals on shoes, clothes, jewelry, whatever I can find," said Lutithia Luckett.

Big box retailers also put large ticket items on sale like televisions and appliances.

The next big shopping holiday is just three months away, which is Black Friday.
