Warren Co. School Board receives 17 applications for superintendent's position

Posted: Updated:
VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) -

The Vicksburg Warren School Board has received 17 applications for the superintendent's position.

The names were not released.

The job had been advertised since June when former Superintendent Elizabeth Swinford left for a similar position with the Tuscaloosa County School District.

In May, the school board hired the Mississippi School Boards Association to conduct the search for Swinford's replacement.

Board President Jim Stirgus Jr. says the school board will either select one of the candidates presented or the MSBA will conduct a new search.

Former Superintendent Donald Oakes is serving in the interim.

Swinford's contract initially paid $125,000 annually. In December, her contract was extended through June 2014 and she was given a 3% pay raise, bringing her salary to $128,500.
