MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Abigail Grace Bonner was remembered at a memorial service at the Home Place in Madison Thursday morning.

The 17-year-old's body was found Aug. 13 in a wooded area near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Rice Road in Madison. She had last been seen at her home in Madison the morning of Aug. 3. Madison police reclassified the case from a missing person case to a runaway case Aug. 6.

Abigail volunteered at the retirement home every Thursday for nearly four years. She would often perform alongside residents in the choir or play the piano. Her parents, Lance and Rachel Bonner, were in attendance as she was remembered through song and prayer.

"Abigail was drawn to those who were particularly lonely and sometimes forgotten so she enjoyed coming here and being with them," Lance Bonner said.

Also in attendance were Madison Police Chief Gene Waldrop and Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler.

"This is a special place and Abigail was very special to the residents here and they loved her dearly," Hawkins Butler said.

Madison police say they're still treating the case as a pending death investigation although they don't believe foul play was involved. Police say the only true cause of Abigail's death will be determined by a toxicology report, which could take several weeks to complete.

Abigail's parents say they believe their daughter took her own life.
