No finger scanning for now

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

New developments on the finger scanning program for daycare centers and its another victory for child care providers opposed to the program.

Judge Denise Sweet Owens has determined the Department of Human Services economic impact statement did not comply with a state statute on implementing new rules. An injunction remains in place for now. That means daycare centers and unlicensed providers are not required to use finger scans or voice recognition to record when children are dropped off or picked up by parents who receive aid.

However, child care providers who voluntarily participated in the finger scanning program are not covered by the judge's order, which was issued Wednesday evening.
