Arson arrest in Jackson - - The News for South Mississippi

Jackson man faces arson charge

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson cops helped fire officials arrest a man in an arson case.

Jamorian Harper is accused of setting a home at 1008 Lanier Ave., on fire Tuesday.

Chief Investigator Gregory Travis says Harper lives a few houses up the street from the scene.

There are 35 known cases of homes and vehicles deliberately torched this year alone.

"We have had a substantial number of arson cases that we are working here in the Jackson Fire Department Division," Travis said. "I do know there has been an increase in the number of fires due to malice and revenge and a lot of people are using fire as a result of retaliation against someone. There has been a fatality this year we are still working some cases and looking for a possible suspect in those fires."

While these tough to solve cases add up, investigators continue their search for arsonists putting out the fires. One arrest at a time.

Jackson fire investigators say they have not determined whether the office fire at Southdown Arms Apartments this week was intentional.
