Prayer rally to remember March on Washington

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Commemorations continue for the 50th Anniversary March on Washington.

Councilwoman Larita Cooper Stokes hosted a prayer rally Sunday afternoon at Freedom Corner. That is at the intersection of Medgar Evers Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

More than 25 people gathered to pray and remember the march.

Stokes says if it wasn't for the work of Medgar Evers and Dr. King she wouldn't be able serve on the city council.

She acknowledged civil rights progress has been made in 50 years, but there is more work to do in our communities.
