CARA has 6th annual Dog Days of Summer

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The reservoir went to the dogs Saturday for CARA's sixth annual Dog Days of Summer fundraiser.

More than 1,400 people and their furry four-legged friends came out to Pelahatchie Shore Park.

There were plenty activities for the entire family. Even your dog could get a colorful new haircut. The non kill shelter says it takes $1,000 a day to keep its doors open.

"We get no government sponsorships or no government funding. So, it's events like this and people who come out to support us that raise the money for that thousand dollar a day budget that we have. So, we have to keep these type events going and keep people coming to them to sustain the shelter," said Denise Cantrell of CARA.

CARA hoped to raise more than $20,000 at Saturday's event.
