Advocacy groups educate MS youth on their rights

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Local advocacy groups spent the morning educating Mississippi youth about their rights.

Dozens of young adults were at Metrocenter Mall for the "Know Your Rights Workshop."

Organizers say they want to empower youth about their legal obligations and rights.

The students learned about and discussed criminal procedure through a re-cap of the George Zimmerman trial. They also talked about how to debunk stereotypes about blacks in the media and tighten relationships with police.

Several community groups, including the ACLU and The Southern Poverty Law Center hosted the workshop.
