Jackson police headquarters evacuated

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Police Department was evacuated Saturday.

Our news crew was on the scene a little after 3:30 p.m. Saturday, where numerous fire trucks and police cruisers were seen around Pascagoula Street, in downtown Jackson, where police headquarters is located.

Scanner reports said court services and the jail at JPD were shut down.

JPD spokesperson Officer Colendula Green said a tarp fell while maintenance was working, creating mass confusion.

We have no word on why the confusion led to the evacuation.

There were no reports of injuries.
