Volunteers lend hand to serve community

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Volunteers from across the metro area spread out at numerous organizations to lend a hand and serve the community.

Saturday's United Way annual event was called the "Day of Action."

A non-profit organization called "Mission First" is one of the sites where volunteers helped out Saturday morning.

Among many tasks, participants spruced up the landscaping around the mission and laid a sidewalk.

"We also want to raise awareness about what these organizations do and the work they're doing in the community and hopefully rally more people to support United Way's partners and efforts in the community," said Ira Murray, with the United Way of the Capital Area.

More than 150 volunteers participated in various "Day of Action" service projects in and around the metro.
