A Group from Gadsden is headed to Washington D.C. for the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. They left by Bus Friday afternoon, and will travel through the night.

There are about 30 students making the trip. For many of them this will be their first time in Washington, and for all of them, this will be their first time to participate in an event like this one.

The group also contains a person who was at the original March. Jeannette Allen was there in 1963 and believes this trip is an opportunity to relive history, while at the same time, continue to blaze a path for future generations.

"I just thank God to be able to go again and be among the freedom fighters, because it's a very important that we fight for racial equality for everybody, regardless of their color or ethnic group," said Allen.

The week will culminate on Wednesday at the Lincoln Memorial. President Barack Obama, and former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter will all address the crowd.
