HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A former girls high school basketball coach facing criminal charges for inappropriate contact with a student was stabbed Friday afternoon at her parents' house on Caesar Necaise Road.
When Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam spoke to WLOX News Friday afternoon, he said Danielle DeWitt was in surgery because she lost a lot of blood.
Authorities are still looking for the attacker, or attackers, but have no suspects at this point. The sheriff said no one else appeared to be home at the time of the stabbing.
DeWitt once worked as a girls basketball coach at Pearl River Central High School. She was charged with sexual battery in Hancock County for an incident involving a student, and charged in Pearl River County with touching a student for lustful purposes.
The sheriff said there's no indication at this point that the stabbing was related to the sex charges.
