KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -

The body of a Mohave Valley man who jumped into the Colorado River as he was chased by tribal police was found on the California side of the river Thursday morning.

Robert Gene Cooper Jr., 44, jumped into the river Monday evening as he ran from a Fort Mohave Tribal police officer, said Trish Carter of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Cooper was last seen floating in the river, but he couldn't be found by tribal police, Carter said.

Cooper's wife told deputies she hadn't seen him since Monday.

Mohave County deputies searched the river and shorelines Wednesday, and were alerted by the San Bernardino County (CA) Sheriff's Office about 10 a.m. Thursday the body was found near Moabi Regional Park in Needles, CA, Carter said.

The San Bernardino Sheriff's Office will conduct the death investigation, Carter said.
