Pearl shooting death possibly self defense

Posted: Updated:
PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Pearl police continue their investigation into a Friday night shooting that claimed the life of one man.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on Lodi Street, according to Lt. Butch Townsend, Pearl Police Public Relations and Information Director.

Townsend said, "Last night's shooting by Andrew Russell Groseclose, 62, of 128 Lodi Street that resulted in the death of his step-son, Richard Russell Groseclose, 40, of the same address, appears to be a self-defense shooting."

Townsend added, "The investigation is on-going, but seems to indicate that an argument between the victim and the shooter resulted with Richard pulling a weapon on his stepfather who, in turn, pulled one of his own and fired once striking the victim in the chest resulting in his death."

Townsend said witness statements confirm the scenario, but the investigation continues and the case will likely be turned over to the next session of the Rankin County Grand Jury for its evaluation.

Lt. Townsend added currently no charges have been filed and non are expected.

An autopsy is scheduled for this weekend.
