JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Brandon man has pleaded guilty in federal court to killing a Louisiana Black Bear, which is a federally protected animal under the endangered Species Act.

Ryan C. Murphy, 32, killed the bear while bow hunting in November, according to U.S. Attorney Gregory Davis.

Murphy was sentenced to a fine of $10,000. He was also ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to the State of Mississippi and $5,000 to the BEaR Foundation -- a non-profit foundation for the restoration of black bear in Mississippi.

He was also placed on two years of probation and prohibited from hunting worldwide for two years. His bow was also forfeited.
