SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Environmental Equality (MDEQ) lifted two water contact advisories Tuesday.
Water advisories in Long Beach from Oak Gardens Avenue east to S. Girard Avenue, as well as, Gulfport Central Beach from Alfonso Drive east to Arkansas Avenue.
According to MDEQ, water samples at these stations show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
A list of stations still under advisory and more information on the Mississippi Beach Monitoring Program are available at http://www.usm.edu/gcrl/msbeach/index.cgi.
