PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Some Rankin County firefighters continued their mission to help one of their own Sunday afternoon.

The Monterey Volunteer Fire Department hosted a blood drive, along with AMR, in honor of Jennifer Hesselbein. She's the AMR paramedic who was injured on the scene of an accident, after being hit by a drunk driver.

Volunteer firefighters and residents from across the metro rolled up their sleeves to give the gift of life.

More than $2,500 was collected Saturday to help Hesselbein with expenses.

The firemen say she's tough, but they'll be standing by her side to help the volunteer firefighter recover.

"We try to take care of our own, in some way, shape, fashion, or form. We lookout for our own, and she's tough. She's gone be back," said Chief James Webb, Monterey Volunteer Fire Department.

Other fire departments have been assisting in fundraising efforts.

Hesselbein remains in the hospital and will need another surgery.
