JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson Police Officer and another man are recovering after being bitten by a dog Sunday afternoon.

JPD Spokesperson Officer Colendula Green says several were walking past 3235 Martin Luther King Drive when they noticed a dog loose in the front yard.

A man was bitten by a dog.

Once officers arrived, they started looking for the owners of the dog. During that search the cop was attacked and bitten on the back.

The unidentified officer was taken to the hospital.

The homeowners were cited for dogs being at large and no rabies shots.
