PIKE COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Pike County officials say a man escaped with his life, but his pickup truck was destroyed when it was struck by an Amtrak train Friday afternoon around 1:40.

Pike County Sheriff's Department Captain Brad Bellipanni says the Chevy S-10 apparently stalled on the tracks south of McComb. The driver couldn't push the truck out of the way so he jumped out just in time.

The collision happened around 1:40 p.m. The City of News Orleans train was temporarily stopped but continued on to New Orleans Friday afternoon.

The sheriff's department is investigating the crash.
