Former Sen. Trent Lott hospitalized in Jackson

Posted: Updated:
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

WLOX News has learned from a former Trent Lott staffer that a ruptured appendix sent the retired senator to a Jackson hospital.

The staffer told us Lott had his appendix removed, and he's doing just fine.

We initially heard about Lott's health issue from members of the Gulfport Rotary Club.  They were asked to keep the former senator in their prayers while he dealt with an illness.

Lott grew up in Pascagoula and served Mississippi in both the House of Representatives and the US. Senate from 1973 until his retirement in 2007.

He currently works for the consulting and lobbying firm "Breaux Lott Leadership Group." He also serves on the board of directors of EADS North America.
