Weekend Whereabouts: August 9 - 11

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

A dazzling display of gems, minerals, jewelry and fossils can be found at the 34th Annual Harrison County Gem and Mineral Show. Vendors from last year and new vendors will be at the show offering everyday-fashionable pieces to the rare and exquisite. Experts will perform demonstrations. There will be food and drinks for sale. Geologist Sharon Greer will have her table set up so bring your rocks to identify or try to "stump the expert".

Bring your family and your lawn chair over to Beach Park in Pascagoula this Friday. Pascagoula's Blues at the Beach features New Orleans band Mississippi Rail Company in concert. The Beach Park concession stand will be open with food and drinks. The band's music has been recorded deep in the swamps of Maurice, Louisiana and retells the ghost stories, love songs, and murder ballads of the South.

Band of Gold a New Orleans Blues and R&B band will perform Saturday at 100 Men Hall. Before their performance a documentary on 100 Men Hall's history called "Call before Demo, Resurrecting a Legendary Blues Hall". The 30-minute movie will highlight the members who built the hall, renovation of the hall, and interviews with performance who played at the hall. Tickets are $15 and there will be a full bar.
