WLOX Editorial: We need to protect our young people
Jackson County is securing its schools this year with armed officers. Some may view this as unnecessary exposure of students to deadly weapons. But we would disagree with that assessment.
We need to provide the security to protect our young people. These officers not only can provide protection but also be a role model for students to look up to for what is right in the world.
Too many things have gone far too badly in schools across the country with no one there to intervene. It is good to know officers are on duty proactively to either deter or stop potential violence against the young people.
We applaud the school system and the Sheriff's department for finding the money and making the commitment to protect our young people.
