WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Authorities say an inmate is back in custody after escaping in Vicksburg and going for a swim.

According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, 21-year-old Jeremy Bowlin was out on probation for two counts of auto burglary. He was reportedly not living where he was supposed to and MDOC was looking for him for violating his probation.

Bowlin was spotted in Vicksburg and taken into custody and somehow got away, according to MDOC.

The Vicksburg Post reports Bowlin escaped outside the Warren County Jail while he was in the custody of a state officer.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace told the Vicksburg Post that Bowlin jumped into the Yazoo Diversion Canal while still handcuffed. Bowlin was reportedly attempting to swim towards Louisiana.

Warren County deputies and Vicksburg investigators pulled Bowline from the water.
