Teen found Moss Point stabbing victim on the way to school

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - A Moss Point teenager leaving for her second day of high school found a horrific scene on her doorstep Wednesday - a man lying dead in a pool of blood. She quickly ran back inside to get her dad, Donald Richardson.

"She said, 'Daddy, I'm going to school,' walked out and came back real abrupt and said, 'Daddy, there is a man on the ground,'" Richardson said. "I came back, hollered at him. He didn't move and wasn't breathing, so I called the cops."

Police say it's too early to know exactly what happened. But investigators do know the man was stabbed, and they don't believe it happened at the home where his body was found on McCall Street.

A blood stain near the doorbell makes it seem like the man came to the house for help, but he was never able to ring it.

"He was running for his life, I guess. By the time he made it to the house, he just gave out," Richardson said.

This is the first murder in Moss Point since Police Chief Keith Davis took over the department in 2011.

"We are going to investigate this completely. We are not going to leave any stone unturned," Davis said. "If you are involved in this, I encourage you to come talk to us. Let's get it all out there, find out what happened. You know, someone lost their life here."

If you have any information about this case, please call Moss Point Police at (228) 475-1711.

Investigators spent the day combing the neighborhood searching for clues in the murder.

"It's discouraging, however no community is without crime, so we have to keep the crime as low as possible," Davis said.

Just hours before the murder, police held a 'Night out Against Crime' and the teen who found the man was there. No one could imagine she would come across such a horrible crime the next day.

Her father said she seems to be doing okay. He said she got a bit emotional talking to her grandmother about what she saw, but the girl decided to go on to school.

Richardson said it is definitely a wake up call.

"It makes me realize that the day ain't promised to nobody," Richardson said.

Richardson's mother left at 3:45am Wednesday morning for work and did not see anything; his daughter found the man around 7am.
