BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Stacy Lasister called the WLOX Newsroom Tuesday to share her concerns about a collapsing sidewalk near Jeff Davis Elementary. It's on the north corner of Rodeo and St. Martha Avenue in Biloxi.

Lasister said about 100 children have to walk through the rough spot to reach their school, and that's dangerous. But this isn't a new problem. Lasister said parents have complained about the sidewalk for nearly four years.

"Nothing has been done. We were told, as you see down the street, there is construction, that is as far as they are going to come. They are not coming up here to fix by the school," Lasister said. "My main concern is I want this fixed so that one of our kids is not walking through water. And, number two, I don't want anybody getting hurt."

Lasister has spoken with the new council person for that ward, Dixie Newman. She said Councilwoman Newman is trying to get something done about the problem, but could not give a timetable for when that will be.
