700 pound gator caught in Fritz Creek in Biloxi

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

After a three hour ordeal, a 700 pound, male gator was caught Saturday in Fritz Creek in the Woolmarket area in Biloxi.

That creek is surrounded by homes and is near Eagle Point subdivision.

According to Biloxi City Council member David Fayard, the gator maybe between 50-60 years old. He said their were complaints made about that gator.

Fayard said it took four people to reel the rogue gator into the boat, but not before putting up a fight.

"We taped his mouth shut before we brought him in the boat. It started doing the death roll. We tied his legs behind his back," Fayard recalled.

Fayard said he has experience trapping gators.

"We used a chicken leg quarter to lure him," he said.

The councilman said nuisance alligator trapper Sam Searcy assisted in the trapping.

Alligator trappers are licensed by the state to remove "nuisance gators."  Trappers generally sell the meat and hides of the animals.
