NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police say the man who is believed to be responsible for the fire that claimed the life of his step-father last month has been arrested in Ohio.

Cecil Eugene Whited, 44, was arrested Sunday in a Cincinnati suburb and faces extradition back to Nashville.

Whited is under indictment for the Aug. 5 house fire at a home on McGavock Pike that killed 52-year-old Alexander Ray.

Originally, investigators said Ray had been sleeping in the basement of the East Nashville home, when the fire was reported near the corner of McGavock Pike and Glenmeade Drive.

Ray's wife, son and three grandchildren were upstairs at the time of the fire. Everyone except Ray was able to escape uninjured.

His family said Ray and his wife, Barbara, were childhood friends who married later in life.

Detectives determined the fire was intentionally set, and Whited was named a suspect.

If you know his whereabouts, contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
