GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Harrison County Supervisors are expected to jump on board an initiative that could save you money.
The group pushing that initiative is a five state caucus that's determined to fight a federal plan to raise flood insurance rates. The caucus is made up of community leaders from Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida.
Mississippi's representative in that caucus is Harrison County Supervisor Connie Rockco. On Monday morning, Rockco will ask her board to endorse a resolution that focuses on flood insurance. Rockco and the five state caucus are planning a lobbying effort to strike down the Biggert Watters Flood Insurance Reform Act.
That initiative was passed last year to help fortify the National Flood Insurance Program. However, Supervisor Rockco contends the legislation is flawed because it actually makes flood insurance a lot more unaffordable for a lot more people.
