Southern Miss coach wants to decide on a starting quarterback in two weeks

HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) - The 97th season in Southern Miss football history officially got underway this morning in Hattiesburg.  Head coach Todd Monken ran his Golden Eagles through a practice session in shorts and helmets on a hot day at the John P. Park Practice Facility.

Monken is looking for a quarterback to take charge and pull away from the pack.

He said,"I don't expect there will be a long, drawn out battle.  I hope to pare that down over the first two weeks of summer camp." He added, "It will last one week and we will go down to two quarterbacks and then down to one in another week."

Six quarterbacks are vying for playing time in camp, including incoming senior Allan Bridgford, a transfer from Cal, junior Cole Weeks, redshirt sophomore Ricky Lloyd, redshirt freshman Kyle Sloter, along with true freshmen Parker Adamson and Nick Mullens.

The Golden Eagles are preparing for the season opener, August 31st, at home facing Texas State.
