Driver killed in morning truck fire IDed

COPIAH COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The driver of an 18-wheeler that ran off I-55 early Friday morning and caught fire has been identified as 43-year-old Robert H. Garland of Missouri. Mississippi Highway Patrol Sargent Odis Easterling says Garland was pronounced dead at the scene.

One southbound lane of I-55 near Wesson remains closed, and may be closed most of the afternoon.

At 4:15 a.m. Friday morning, Garland's 18-wheeler ran off the road into some trees and caught fire.

The truck was the only vehicle involved and no one else was injured.
